CD 1.º de Maio “B”’s U-14 team kicked off the Bronze Cup – Group 7 of the 2nd Phase of the Madeira Cup with an important 4-2 victory over CD Ribeira Brava “C” at the 1.º de Maio Stadium. It was a game of comebacks, character, and commitment, in which the blue-and-white team showed resilience after falling behind on the scoreboard.

A tough start, a strong response

The match got off to a rough start for CD 1.º de Maio, with CD Ribeira Brava “C” scoring just two minutes in on a goal by Hector Ascensão and adding another in the 9th minute courtesy of Alexandre Marques. Despite the rough start, our young players stayed focused and maintained their composure, never losing faith in a comeback.

The response was both strong and effective. João Ascenção pulled one back in the 33rd minute, reigniting hope for the team and the fans in the stands. In the second half, CD 1.º de Maio stepped up their game even further, picked up the pace, and completely turned the match around with goals from Pedro Ramos in the 57th minute, André Martins in the 63rd minute, and João Henriques in the 71st minute, sealing a well-deserved and hard-fought victory.

A victory built on team spirit

This victory truly reflects the team’s identity: never giving up, believing in themselves, and competing until the very end. Their ability to bounce back after conceding two goals early on demonstrates emotional maturity and a strong bond between the players and coaching staff. At the youth level, this kind of response is just as valuable as the result itself, because it teaches players how to handle adversity without losing their composure or their respect for the game.

The team has clearly improved in the way it adapts to different situations during the game. When the game calls for composure, they remain calm. When it calls for attacking aggression, they take the initiative. This balance is a very positive sign of the daily work being done.

ACD Jardim da Serra's next home game

The team already has another match scheduled for April 19 at 9:30 a.m. against ACD Jardim da Serra at the Ribeiro Real Soccer Field. It will be another opportunity to build on their current momentum and continue to improve in this stage of the Madeira Cup.
