CF Andorinha 6 – 0 CD 1º de Maio
The CD 1º de Maio Under-19 Juniors concluded the 5th round of Series B of the Madeira Cup with a loss against CF Andorinha, but with the right attitude until the very last minute. The result does not diminish the dedication, courage, and commitment of each player, who represented the club with dignity in a demanding match against a very effective opponent.
A Difficult Game, but with Learning
The team entered the field eager to compete and take control of the game, but faced a very strong Andorinha in transitions and finishing. CD 1º de Maio fought for every ball, tried to maintain organization, and sought to respond with character, even as the score became increasingly difficult. In games of this level, the most important thing is not just the immediate result, but how the athletes react to the challenge and absorb the experience to grow.
The truth is that this group continues to build its competitive identity. There are moments when the game demands more maturity, more concentration, and a greater ability to manage frustration. And it is precisely there that this team can make its next leap.
The Team and Staff
The team was led by José Luís Marques Teixeira, with Carlos Filipe Faria Fernandes as the 1st delegate.
The starting eleven included: Luís Guerrero (GK), Rodrigo Silva, Tiago Abreu, Guilherme Silva, Diogo Ribeiro, João Mendonça, Luís Freitas, Matvei Volochenko, Rui Gama, Lucas Ferreira, and Michael Luís.
Also came on: Pedro Abreu, Guilherme Gonçalves, David Reinolds, Francisco Vieira, Rodrigo Freitas, Ricardo Abreu, and Hélder Francisco.
The squad's structure shows a group with solutions, youth, and room for improvement.
When the weekly work is well done, results tend to appear more frequently.
The emotional side of team growth
A heavy defeat can hurt pride, but it can also serve as a very useful mirror. Emotionally, the young athlete learns to deal with loss, frustration, and the need to continue believing in themselves and the team.
It is in these moments that inner resilience develops: accepting what happened, understanding what can be improved, and transforming pain into discipline.
Football also teaches this. It's not enough to react to a conceded goal or a mistake; it's necessary to recenter, breathe, observe, and refocus on what depends on each individual.
When an athlete learns to control their focus, they grow as a player and as a person. Defeat, when properly addressed, can be the beginning of a stronger response.
What's Next: CS Marítimo da Madeira “B”
The next challenge is scheduled for April 18, at 6:30 PM, against CS Marítimo da Madeira “B”, at the CS Marítimo Sports Complex – Field 2. This will be the final matchday of the phase, a good opportunity for the team to show progress, conclude the competition with renewed energy, and leave an impression of fighting until the end.
A Word for the Club
CD 1º de Maio is proud of these young players, of how they wear the jersey, and how they continue to work diligently. The path is built game by game, training by training, with humility, discipline, and commitment. The right response always comes from work well done.
