A tough first half, but a strong comeback in the second half

The first half was marked by a very competitive match, with CD 1.º de Maio “B” allowing Estrela da Calheta to take the lead in the 47th minute, already in stoppage time of the first half. The visitors’ goal forced the home team to step up their game and seek a stronger response after halftime.

The team didn’t stop there and remained in control, constantly building up in midfield and closing down defensive channels with great determination.
Guilherme Mendes handled it with class
Just when a draw seemed like the most likely outcome, a moment of outstanding individual skill decided the match. In the 93rd minute, Guilherme Mendes scored on a direct free kick from outside the box, placing the ball with pinpoint accuracy into the opponent’s net and sealing a very satisfying victory for CD 1.º de Maio “B.” It was a goal of skill, confidence, and composure, worthy of a game that demanded courage until the very end.
That play perfectly encapsulated the team’s growth throughout the second half. The team never lost faith, never gave up, and was ultimately rewarded for its competitive spirit and the determination it showed in every play.
The technical staff played a decisive role

The coaching staff’s excellent work was evident throughout the entire match. Under the guidance of Paulo Tito Sousa Gomes, with the support of Ricardo Jorge Rodrigues Gomes (Assistant Coach), José Manuel Costa Gonçalves (Team Manager), and Alexia Aguiar Mendes (Massage Therapist), the team maintained its organization, discipline, and ability to respond even in the most challenging moments.
The way the team responded after halftime demonstrates the coaching staff’s influence on both the emotional and tactical fronts. They read the game well, adjusted positioning, and provided constant encouragement to keep the team in the game until the very last minute.

Remarkable progress by the team shaped by the coach
The technical and behavioral progress of the Senior B team has been evident throughout the season, thanks to the meticulous work of the coaching staff. The players now demonstrate greater maturity on the field, focusing entirely on the game rather than on referees’ decisions or outside opinions.
This attitude of total focus, combined with quicker transitions and better defensive organization, reflects the collective growth that turns early struggles into hard-fought victories. The determination to control what depends on them—ball possession, high pressure, and quick decision-making—has been the hallmark of this renewed blue-and-white identity.
